The short version
We use one cookie, and only once you sign in: the one that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.
Strictly necessary cookies
When you sign in we set a session cookie so that the site knows it is still you on the next page. Without it you cannot stay signed in. It is deleted when you sign out, or when it expires.
Cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for do not require your consent, which is why you are not being shown a consent banner.
Analytics
We measure how the site is used with a privacy-preserving analytics tool that sets no cookies and does not fingerprint your device or browser. It tells us how many people visited a page. It cannot tell us who they were.
Local storage in your browser
Some preferences — your language, saved places if you are not signed in, whether you dismissed a notice — are stored by your browser on your own device. They are not sent to us and never leave your device unless you sign in and choose to sync.
Managing all of this
You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie will mean you cannot sign in; everything else will keep working.
If we ever add a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first.
